Fire Safety Management Reviews

The consequences for organisations of a serious fire are all too well familiar, with each year property and product damage, injury or worse occurring. Fire safety management, while also very familiar to those responsible for and managing buildings, can be a difficult activity to manage with potentially multiple contractors providing multiple tests, inspections and examinations, all based on a hopefully robust and accurate fire strategy. Changes in usage, design, contractors and requirements over time can see alterations to what is now actually needed for your management of fire safety.

In England and Wales, it is the responsibility of the ‘responsible person’ to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RR(FS)O) (For Scotland it is the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the associated Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and Northern |Ireland the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and The Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010) and supporting guidance.

The requirements of Articles 8 to 23 of the RR(FS)O include and range from, fire risk assessment and fire safety arrangements to fire fighting and detection, emergency routes and exits, maintenance, training and procedures for serious and imminent danger. Individually each may be covered by a contract or process, but how do you assess the effectiveness of the management as a whole?

Our fire management reviews challenge the current policies and procedures in place, to determine whether current fire management practices are suitable, or where improvements can be made to comply with your regulatory requirements. Our management review looks at key aspects of your control process, using the HS(G) 65 Plan, Do, Check, Act approach and covering elements such as your policy, responsibilities, risk assessments and written procedures as well as training and competency, implemented controls, records and reviews.

As a standalone report and compiled through site audit, discussion with relevant staff and a documentation review, an Assurity Consulting fire management review helps you understand exactly where your fire safety management currently is.
