Sophia Richardson

Sophia Richardson, Consultancy Services Deputy Manager, Assurity ConsultingI joined Assurity Consulting in 2005 straight after graduating from university. I started off my career as a microbiologist in our in-house laboratory, processing and reading air and water samples from our customer's buildings. Whilst working in the lab, I took on the technical development role. This involved managing all our site equipment, developing how our consultants carry out their air and water testing, and making sure that we continue to meet standards set by our UKAS accreditations.

My first year in this role gave me a good understanding of air and water quality, which naturally lead me into the consultant role. As a consultant, the first service I delivered was Workplace Environmental Assessments. Assurity Consulting is fantastic at providing consultants with opportunities to learn and develop themselves. If you are willing, there are always opportunities to learn a new service. I now deliver a range of services, many of which are associated with health and safety and access auditing. Through these services, I have achieved a number of professional qualifications. Assurity Consulting also encourages us to join professional memberships for example IOSH, the Access Association and NRAC, so that we can continuously develop and demonstrate our competence.

I love to learn new things and I'm look forward to adding another service to those I already deliver. I have learnt from my time at Assurity Consulting, that I also enjoy passing on my knowledge to others. I have been a mentor and for a number of years I was part of our internal training team, which was really rewarding. There are plenty of opportunities within our company to mentor people learning new services. The internal training we provide is very robust and challenging, to make sure that all our consultants are competent to deliver their respective services.

I have been given so many wonderful opportunities at Assurity Consulting. The consultant role is so varied, which I really like. Each day is different, and I am given the flexibility to manage my own time. We have a great support structure in place. We each belong to a team and we are regularly in contact with each other. I have a fantastic manager and deputy manager, both of which are very supportive. Assurity Consulting is dedicated to making the work experience as good as possible. Each year a number of fun company events are put on, allowing the employees to build relationships with each other, or to learn new skills. Assurity Consulting also puts on several events for customers, such as seminars, webinars, networking events and golf days.

One of the best things about my role are the locations I get to work in as some of my customers work in very prestigious buildings. I get to see parts of these buildings that people wouldn’t normally have access to. I also get to travel to different places, meet new people and experience different cultures, which I really enjoy.
