After graduating from University, I knew I was looking for a varied and dynamic role where I wouldn’t be stuck to a desk, which why I joined Assurity Consulting as Trainee Consultant in January 2020!
I completed my training during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was definitely different from the usual Trainee Consultant experience. Despite this however, I was able to fully qualify as a Consultant in 2020 and can now deliver Workplace Environmental Assessments and Legionella Risk Assessments. In January 2024, I was promoted to Senior Consultant by becoming a mentor to new starters, becoming a key figure in a networking group, and with my contract management skills. This was my way of getting a promotion, but there are multiple different avenues to become a Senior Consultant, which allows the promotion to be specified to the individual and what the individual enjoys.
The Consultant role is really varied, being a mix of site work, admin, and sales – which really suits me as someone who likes being out and about. I get to see behind the scenes of some major landmark buildings, and I have visited some amazing sites all over the country that I never would have had the opportunity to see otherwise. I’ve also been able to attend events such as the Facilities Show at the ExCel in London – a three-day event where I was able to network with customers and prospects – as well as bond with the colleagues I was with.
One of my favourite things about my role is how social it is. Speaking to people is a huge part of my job, and when I carry out assessments at our customers’ buildings, I get to know all kinds of people and really build the relationships we have with our customers. So you have to be really outgoing! You learn how to speak to anyone about anything in this job, which is a great skill to have – especially as a young graduate.
There are plenty of social events I get to enjoy with my colleagues as well – such as our annual summer party the company throws, and food van events at the office. One of the great things about working at Assurity Consulting, is how you get to be out and about somewhere different each week – but there is a whole team of supportive colleagues to come back to and have fun with, whenever I am in the office.
