UCL Estates manages the engineering and maintenance infrastructure from the strategic to the operational, across property acquisition and management, capital projects, engineering and maintenance, environmental sustainability, safety, security, cleaning and including student residences and central room bookings. They strive to provide a coordinated and customer-oriented approach to developing, maintaining and adapting UCL's estate and a wide range of support services. This creates an environment which supports UCL's academic mission.

During 2014, the Estates team was considering a new supplier for their water management programme as they realised there were some gaps in the service they were receiving. They were looking for clarity in their current situation and needed to understand their level of risk. A tender was put together with high expectations for the type of service provider they required, with a strong weighting towards UKAS accreditation, environmental and health and safety certification and impeccable references.

 Whilst matching the criteria of the tender, and with their experience of working within the property sector, Assurity Consulting were delighted to win it. Following negotiation, Assurity Consulting gained a four-year contract with UCL to carry out Legionella risk assessments across the entire estate. Over the first two years, there were 220 Legionella risk assessments across the building portfolio, which included office and teaching space, halls of residence, museums, hospitals and observatories. Assurity Consulting Consultants are now seen as a trusted partner by UCL and are given access to their intranet and all buildings to carry out assessments independently in a professional manner matching the values of the UCL employees.
